Grateful Man

I knew how the thing worked:
For a time blood filled your core
every time she called your name
For a time then you were patient
You were settled
You were tame
And that's the path love ran

I didn't know I was striving
I had no sort of fateful plan;
I grew up to love a woman
and now I'm a grateful man.

I understood the system:
Man was built to fret and rage
she wasn't his alone
until the time came that her fire
and his passion
had all flown
And that's the path love ran

and now I'm a grateful man.

And I found out that when you laughed
I laughed
and I cried when you cried
I found I dreamt of no one but you
and I was satisified

I love to make you laugh
I love to fan your flame
I love to see your face
I love to hear your name
